Safety Training Specialist

JOB SUMMARY: To ensure the integrity, safety,
and quality of Driscollís product. Overall responsibility for the
development, management, and execution of Driscollís Food Safety Training
Program. This includes training programs geared towards harvest crews, ranch
managers, cooler personnel, packing house personnel
and food safety representatives in all growing regions with an initial
emphasis on Mexico, United States and South America. To monitor the
effectiveness of these training programs and to make revisions and
improvements to both the training programs and food safety program/SOPs as
needed. This position will also be responsible for assisting the DSA food
safety teams with the execution of special projects.
JOB QUALIFICATION: Bachelor of Science degree in an Agricultural related
field with emphasis on microbiology and plant science plus five years experience in agriculture with emphasis on
microbiology and plant science. Experience and expertise in the development
and implementation of food safety training programs is essential. Excellent
verbal and written communication skills; self-starter; computer skills;
knowledge of laws and regulations of agricultural chemicals; Bilingual
English/Spanish is required. Must be able to
maintain a valid CA Driverís License with the ability to be insured under
company sponsored liability coverage.
Procedures: Work with the food safety team to develop food safety training
programs in support of the understanding and adoption of Good Agricultural
Practices (GAPs) as well as a basic understanding of microbiology and risk
mitigation associated with the harvesting and handling of fresh produce.
These programs will be geared towards growers, ranch managers, cooler
personnel, packinghouse personnel and Driscollís employees. Work with food safety
personnel to write and revise Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and cooler
Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP) manuals. Generate revisions
and updates to these documents as needed.
Program Management: Manage daily activities of the National Food Safety
Teamís food safety training programs. Develop new and existing staff to
attain Driscollís food safety training objectives.
Production Area Audits and Visits: Visit all areas of production to support
and develop the Food Safety Training Program, Food Safety Program, processes,
Industry and Government Relationships: Maintain and establish new contacts
with Government, University and produce industry organizations.
Advisor: Keep current with all food safety audit requirements and revise SOPs
to maintain compliance with Driscollís food safety requirements. The
objective is for compliance with audits and our food safety program to be a
natural and integral part of each growerís program.
General: Ensures the security of Driscollís proprietary and confidential
information and material. Follows Company policies and practices while
representing Driscollís in an ethical and business-like manner in all
interactions with employees, government agencies, growers, customers.1
