Scientist, Research & Development - Consumer Foods

Orrville, OH (Greater Cleveland area)

REPORTS TO

Senior Scientist, Research & Development - Consumer Foods

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

·         Execute projects designed to result in new or improved products, or improve quality of existing products or processes

·         Implement all technical aspects of projects and ensure that all assigned tasks are completed according to business plan

·         Provide technical leadership and technical solutions to cross functional teams.

·         Develop and maintain relationships across the SBA to promote collaboration on new product development

·         Coordinate and manage laboratory, pilot plant and plant trials for new products, quality improvement and/or profit improvement projects

·         Coordinate experimental design, shelf life, sensory analysis and technical appraisals for all projects

·         Develop and publish formulation & finished product specifications.

·         Contribute to technical proposals, project reports and maintain all technical documentation such as laboratory notebooks

·         Maintain awareness of current developments within the food industry as it relates to new ingredients and/or technology

·         Practice and encourage creative thinking skills to solve technical problems as well as drive Innovation

·         Demonstrate leadership skills to manage and develop technical team members

SELECTION CRITERIA

Education

·         Bachelor's degree is required (a degree in Food Science, Grain Science, Bakery Science, or Chemical Engineering is preferred)

·         Master's degree is a plus

Experience

·         A minimum of 5 or more years of experience in Research & Development is required

·         5 or more years of experience formulating yeast raised bread products or frozen bakery products is strongly preferred

Other

·         Ability to travel up to 20% is required

·         Ability to direct Research and Development projects from conception through completion

·         Ability to work closely with Marketing, Operations, and Quality teams

·         Ability to work within a team environment and manage technical team members

·         Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously

·         Strong organizational, critical thinking and creativity skills

·         Strong time management skills

·         Effective presentation, verbal and written communication skills

·         Ability to organize and prioritize actions to help meet SBA objectives and long-term vision
