Cargill has an exciting opportunity available for a Sr. Food Scientist in Wichita, KS. This position will conduct seasoning and blend development aligned with business needs for purposes of new product development, new process development, product or process improvement, technical support or troubleshooting.  The purpose of the position is to: 1) Work within the defined commercialization process to develop blended seasonings or combined ingredient components used in finished products; 2) Provide expertise to optimize current seasoning blends used in existing product portfolio;  3) Participate in development of new technology innovation both inside and outside the business platform;  4) Provide technical support to the purchasing function during the supplier selection process. 


Principal Accountabilities:

         30% - Develop a process to evaluate current seasoning portfolio in an effort to match or optimize existing seasoning blends.

         30% - Proactively develop functional/flavor seasoning solutions to meet new product development project requirements.

         15% - Develop system for development and introduction of new ingredients and coordinate ingredient supply with strategic sourcing initiatives.

         15% - Understand new technology trends related to seasonings/flavor delivery systems and assess if/how our business can benefit from them.  Identify, develop and capture IP related to ingredients applications.

         10 % - Work with culinary staff, customers and marketing to provide insights into flavor trends.




         A bachelor's of science degree or equivalent experience in food/meat science, culinary arts or food processing is necessary

         A minimum of 5 years of experience in the food industry related to new product development, commercialization of new products and/or research.

         Highly Motivated individual with a strong scientific background.

         Skills necessary to formulate products for use in meat products

         Effective project management skills

         Capable to provide leadership/motivation to engage employees in the business across multiple locations.

         Ability to facilitate small and large cross-functional teams

         Technical writing and effective vocal communication is required

         Analytical Problem Solving: Able to identify problems; apply structured and disciplined methodology to identify root cause using data

         High level of proficiency using Microsoft office and e-mail.


         A master's degree or equivalent experience is preferred

         5 years experience developing seasoning blends and flavor systems for use in the meat industry is preferred.

         Strong project management skills

         Team leadership skills
