Covance’s Nutritional Chemistry and Food Safety
(NCFS) division has an exiting opportunity for a Director in Food Safety
Microbiology.
As a member of the Senior Leadership Team you’ll be the primary
scientific authority for the microbiology laboratory, responsible for
driving the strategic growth of the business, developing operational plans
to meet long and short term objectives and for executing these plans.
Additional responsibilities include:
Identification and implementation of
client service offerings that will differentiate Covance among other
industry providers.
Assesses interest and feasibility of
service offerings designed to meet scientific, regulatory and client
requirements.
Select methodology and assure appropriate
techniques are used for microbiological testing in multiple food matrices.
Consult with clients on technical
problems or scope changes; suggest solutions and actions to solve assay
problems.
Develop
plans and drive continuous process improvement efforts in the laboratory to
ensure competitiveness in the market place.
The ideal candidate will have the following experience and qualifications:
PhD in Microbiology plus 5 years
experience in the food industry; B.S. or M.S. in Microbiology plus 10-15
years experience in the food industry.
Strong scientific reputation.
Knowledge and familiarity of the dynamics
and environment of a high volume, high throughput microbiology lab.
Experience developing or modifying
microbiology methodology.
Excellent written, oral and interpersonal
communication skills that facilitate the ability to engage with clients and
lead a team.
Laboratory
start-up experience a plus, but not required.
This opportunity is located in Battle Creek, MI just minutes away from
Kalamazoo, three hours from Chicago, IL and two hours from Detroit, MI.

Ideally, the successful candidate will live within commuting distance of
the business; however, since the primary location for Covance’s NCFS
division is located in Madison, WI, consideration will be given to
candidates that choose to live in the Madison area and travel to Battle
Creek. Relocation assistance will be available.
