Responsible for managing Supply Chain, Fresh and Regulatory food safety processes and programs to support department initiatives including pre-retail supply chain activity, fresh product and associated vendor food safety and regulatory compliance.  This position will work closely with the corporate fresh teams, DC locations, regulators and trade associations to support department strategies and ultimate regulatory compliance.  The “fresh” scope is corporate wide involves but is not limited to, Private Brands, Meat/Seafood, Bakery, Deli, Produce and Dairy.  In addition, the supply chain includes up to 40 DC locations and includes locally as well as internationally sourced products that are sold in our owned retail banner and independent’s retail locations.


Support the comprehensive corporate Food Safety Quality Assurance mission and strategies to minimize consumer, regulatory, image and overall business risks.


Directly interact with the corporate Fresh departments (Meat/Seafood, Bakery, Deli, (Dairy) and Produce to develop, implement and monitor Food Safety programs as directed by the Supply Chain Fresh FS director to support the greater Food Safety Quality Assurance Strategies. 


Support and assist in the management of the corporate recall functions that serve all DC’s and retail endpoint stakeholders.


Under the direction of the director of supply chain food safety and working with the corporate legal department, monitor and recommend and implement action plans for all pending food safety regulations that affect our DC’s and retail supply chain end points.  In addition, respond directly to all regulatory inquiries regardless of source.


Interface with the Private Brands Quality Assurance team to solve supply chain and fresh category food safety and quality issues that affect our corporate labeled products.  (Regulatory, Recall, Cold Chain, Labeling, etc.)


Interface with the Retail Food Safety banner teams to solve supply chain and fresh category food safety and quality issues that affect our banner stores and region supplied independent retailers.


Internally interact with the corporate legal and communication teams as necessary.


Conduct Food Safety facility audits on food production plants, farms or other production operations as directed.  Note that some international travel may be required.


Review and assess food safety audit reports from 3rd party auditors on food production facilities, farms, ranches and other production operations.


Support and execute DC Food Safety; cold chain, receiving, HACCP and “Good Warehousing Practices” processes as directed.


Train specialist associates in all areas above.


Expand personal knowledge through internal and external contacts including trade associations, regulatory meetings, academia and committee work.



 Bachelor’s degree in food science/technology, biological sciences or related field required

 At least 5 years experience in food/beverage quality assurance or manufacturing quality assurance/quality control and/or in the wholesale/retail grocery or foodservice channel with focus on fresh product categories. (Meat, Seafood,Bakery, Deli, Produce)

 Previous managerial experience.

Must possess ability to interpret governmental regulations, technical specifications and determine appropriate compliance responses.

Must possess a broad knowledge base for evaluation of food safety risk.

Must possess a working knowledge of HACCP based principles, GMPs, SOPs, and other applicable operating control processes.

Must possess good communication skills, including verbal, written and public speaking skills.

High level of organization skills

Computer literate and functionally able to use Microsoft Word, Access, Excel and PowerPoint.

Must possess the ability to work with and through others effectively and cooperatively to achieve desired results. Contributing to a cooperative, teamwork atmosphere is considered essential to the effectiveness of this position.

Must be self-motivated and capable of working independently, as well as motivating others and directing others to attain the goals that are set for the department.
