A popular Oldbury restaurant has been forced to close in a suspected salmonella scare.

Several diners who claimed to have eaten at Wing Wah restaurant and wine bar in Causeway Green Road have suffered symptoms of the illness.

The restaurant was ordered to close on Friday by Sandwell council’s environmental health officers who are currently carrying out an investigation at the premises.

Sandwell council cabinet member Mahboob Hussain said none of the people taken ill had been hospitalised.

Cllr Hussain added: “As a council we always treat matters like this very seriously.

"A number of people who had been to Wing Wah were taken ill with suspected salmonella poisoning and environmental health officers closed the premises down as a precaution pending further investigations.”

It is not yet known when the restaurant, which first opened seven years ago, will be reopened
