The Opportunity

We have an opportunity for a Director of Food Safety - Field Operations to join our Compliance & Capability Team to help lead the Feeding America network in building its food safety capacity by promoting a national culture of food safety, providing support and resources to achieve and sustain food safety compliance and work to become the leader in food safety in the food industry.

In this role you will:

  • Assist Members in the implementation of food safety systems throughout the network.
  • Assist Members in attaining contractual compliance on food safety related issues.
  • Promote and educate the network on the new Food Safety Standard. (i.e. webinars, one on one training, local or regional support).
  • Manage, coordinate, influence and support members to achieve positive results from third party food safety audits.
  • Work with the membership to coordinate and encourage peer training/support on the issue of food safety.
  • Serve as a trainer and resource to the network on the issue of food safety.
  • Contribute to content of Food Safety page on Hungernet.
  • Lead the coordination and support the content development for the Food Safety Summit.
  • Transition the network to an enhanced culture of food safety.
  • Provide technical assistance to network members as necessary.
  • Lead the grant process for food safety grants (rfp development, application review, and donor reports).


The successful candidate will demonstrate the following skills and experiences:

  • BA/BS in Food Science or related field required.
  • Food Safety Systems Training and Certification.
  • HACCP Certification.
  • 3-5 years of experience in operational food safety, quality assurance, and auditing required.
  • Excellent oral and written presentation, communication, and project management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to attend to detail, focus on service and willingness to learn.
  • Demonstrated program implementation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Committed to organizational mission of ending hunger.
  • Ability to travel as required.
  • A deep commitment to the mission of Feeding America.
