Job Summary
The Director of Quality Assurance is responsible for all food safety and quality assurance activity. We are looking for a leader that wants to make a difference, develop and grow a solid team, as well as, develop and improve the current systems. The QA Director will lead the implementation of a Quality Management software system to take our quality and regulatory standards to world class. You will bring significant knowledge of various generally recognized quality programs and regulatory compliance. Your leadership experience will inspire your team to be quality champions via critical thinking, problem solving and innovative solutions.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Ensures highly disciplined compliance with all regulatory and Company defined food safety and sanitation standards, systems, procedures, and practices to ensure that we produce the highest quality products. Implementation and drive the Quality Management Software system.
  • Possesses a “hands on” management style
  • Completes “Out of compliance” investigations, makes recommendations to resolve these instances, including complaint trend investigations.
  • Supplier oversight and raw material inspections and approval.
  • Oversees, directs, and manages the Quality Assurance function to ensure highly disciplined compliance with all product and process quality parameters and standards including formulations, specifications, approved methods, procedures, practices and systems.

These systems include:

  • Responsible for overall Plant Quality System Compliance which may include SQF 2000, GFSI, SSOP, HACCP and FSMA as well as customer required programs.
  • Product and process quality management systems Product quality analysis and deviation adjustments
  • Obtains excellent quality results, as measured by customer complaint frequency, product evaluation scores, internal and external facility and operational audit scores, quality systems compliance, and other formal and informal feedback mechanisms, using existing and future methods, procedures, and systems.
  • Develops, implements, and sustains new methods and procedures to drive improvements in quality and food safety.
  • Works with manufacturing and other team members to ensure plant activities and equipment installs pass our quality and sanitation requirements.
  • Manages departmental activity to comply with all applicable safety laws and regulations, as well as Company safety policies, procedures and standards and is an active member of the safety committee.
  • Works with the Technical Services Director and R&D on the operational implementation of all regulatory compliance, process and specification changes, and new product introductions.
  • Responsible for establishing and achieving the annual QA operating budget

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in food quality assurance, preferably in the thermo processing industry, with demonstrated success at the Manager or Director of Quality Assurance level.
  • Strong Team Management experience.
  • A solid background in chemistry, microbiology and algebraic analytics.
  • Sense of urgency and ownership regarding role and the needs of the department.
  • Strong quantitative skills, interpersonal skills, and the ability to think critically.
  • Self-directed with the ability to work independently as well as with groups.
  • Excellent verbal and written and communication and Excel skills and
  • Ability to effectively plan, organize and prioritize work

Education:
BS Degree or advanced technical degree in microbiology, chemistry, food science or closely related discipline is preferred
