Job Summary
|
|
The
R&D Manager, Sweet Flavors, will lead, manage, and direct
applications and creative lab activities to support existing and new
business growth opportunities at targeted sweet product manufacturing
customers (ice cream, yogurt, bakery and confectionery). The R&D
Manager will focus applications and creative personnel and activities
to insure project deadlines and departmental objectives are met.
Support sales, marketing, operations, and technology objectives as
outlined in strategic business plans. Identify and develop new product
and application (inclusions and variegates) opportunities to help grow
the business. Coach and develop direct reports with challenging
projects and personalized development plans.
MAJOR DUTIES:
- Lead, manage, direct and
develop Sweet Flavors’ application and creative personnel in the
creation of ice cream and yogurt variegate & inclusion
products, confectionery flavors, sweet brown flavors, and bakery
applications.
- Manage multiple,
constantly changing priorities through organization and team
orientated leadership strategies to ensure that projects are
completed in a timely manner.
- Utilize the expertise of
the Creative Flavorists, applications
personnel, and sensory groups to develop/recommend dairy systems
to meet or exceed project objectives.
- Determine feasibility of
project objectives, timelines, and deliverables, and communicate
expected outcomes and/or alternatives.
- Oversee the creation and
development of new and existing products to assist in new business
areas and further penetrate existing accounts. Ensure that
resources are focused on meeting the objectives set by the
strategic business plans.
- Coordinate with and
communicate with sales, marketing, creative, application,
technical, and operations personnel on customer projects,
demonstrations, and inquiries to provide solutions and resolution
to customers.
- Accompany Account
Representatives on customer calls to help educate our customers on
company strengths and capabilities. Assist the customer by
providing dairy solutions to their product/process challenges.
- Develop technical ability
of staff members through mentoring/coaching, counseling, feedback
and personal development plans.
- Utilize good
communication skills, both written and oral, to make presentations
to customers, internal colleagues and management. Organize and
prepare comprehensive reports of technical plans, progress and
future work.
- Provide a safe and
professional working environment for applications staff.
- Utilize computer systems
to insure that applications and creative data is
maintained in a timely and accurate fashion. Utilize the computer
system’s capabilities for selection and screening of flavor/flavor
enhancement systems.
- Assist in the development
of robust business processes to improve efficiency and
effectiveness of technical personnel.
- Identify and recommend
capital requirements that will enable Sensient
Flavors to remain competitive with respect to applications
development.
- Assist in establishing
the budgetary needs of the department.
- Represent the company in
various flavor industry and professional organizations.
- Job duties are important
to food safety and food quality. Will actively support lab,
operations, and company safety and quality policies &
procedures

Qualifications
|
|
BS,
MS, or PhD in food science, chemistry or related technical area and on
the order of 5 to 10 years’ experience in the yogurt/ ice cream, sweet
goods, confectionery, or flavors industries. Advanced degree preferred.
Experience in product development preferred. Demonstrated understanding
of sweet or dairy ingredients with expertise in key technical areas.
Experience
in formulating finished products. Knowledge of pertinent technical
processes, regulatory guidelines, and sensory testing a plus. Solid
communication skills with the ability to build strong teams through
interaction, delegation and personnel development. Working knowledge of
appropriate computer software applications.
