The factory hygienist, under the direction of the Quality Assurance Manager,
provides direction / leadership with the factory GMP's, sanitation, Pest
Control and hygienic design programs. This position ensures that the Quality
Management System is consistently applied throughout the factory within the
guidelines of hygienic practices. The function is the guardian of Food Safety
and compliance monitoring systems administered by the Quality Department.
This position requires an in-depth knowledge of sanitation/GMP principles,
methods, and technology. In addition to sound technical skills, this function
requires effective communication skills to work with a variety of
cross-functional customers (QA, Operations, Engineers, Regulators) both
in-house and outside the Company to ensure the factory is aware of and
continuously improving overall hygiene programs.
Ensure that factory sanitation programs are effectively implemented,
validate, and maintained to ensure that all products are manufactured in a
sanitary and wholesome environment. This includes the sanitation and hygiene
of the facility environment (internal/external) as well as the processing and
supporting equipment. When fully implemented, the program should have
validated SSOP's for all sanitation needs. Effective/efficient cleaning
frequency is managed through an MSS. Coordination
activities with sanitation manager and operations required to ensure
the consistent use of the program procedures. This cleaning program must
comply with Nestlé internal policies and procedures, as well as with any
regulatory (Federal, State, Local) requirements. The hygienist will also be a
primary contact with 3rd-party Sanitation partner and ensure that joint
factory specific objectives are established and achieved.
Manages the factory Integrated Pest Management Program (IPM) and ensures that
it has been implemented and maintained effectively to support a pest-free
environment. The factory hygienist must be knowledgeable and trained in IPM
principles. As manager of this program, the hygienist will be the primary
contact with 3rd-party Pest Control partner and ensure that joint factory specific
objectives are established and achieved.
Ensures there is an effective hygienic design review process at the factory
for existing and new processes as well as the factory structure. Provides
leadership/direction in this area of hygienic design.
Administers and manages the factory Sanitation/GMP/Regulatory inspection and
audit programs. Acts as the main point of contact for all external audits
(NQS, regulatory, 3rd-party) as well as coordinates internal GMP
inspections/audit program. This would include the management and
communication of a formalized CA process to drive continuous improvement.
Coordinate hygiene training and development of employees for all factory
hygiene programs (areas include: sanitation, GMP, Pest Control, allergens,
and hygienic engineering). Promotes quality/hygiene awareness throughout the
factory through participation with communication meetings. Active participant
in Quality training for the factory and contractors.
Active member of the factory HACCP / Food Safety team. Duties include
supporting PRP verification activities and providing the link with these
activities back to the Food Safety team.
Employee shall follow Franklin Park Factory safety & environmental
objectives & targets, follow the plan safety
rules, report incidents & unsafe conditions immediately, maintain
compliance with regulations, and refer to the Safety & Environmental
Management System(s) on all related procedures and programs.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS AND MINIMUM EDUCATION LEVEL:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Microbiology, Food Science/Technology, Food
Sanitation, or comparable field required.
Prefer individual with AIB/ASI or some other professional GMP/Sanitation
Prefer individual has completed Pest control training (i.e. State Pesticide
Certification, Purdue Correspondence Course).
Minimum of 5-7 years in Food Plant Sanitation
Supervisory experience preferred.
Knowledge in Food Safety / HACCP
GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) awareness
Basic knowledge in Hygienic Design
Competent in Quality Management
Competent in analytical / microbiological lab environment
Aware of 5S Principles
