Extension Dairy and Food Processing Specialist

University of Idaho School of Food Science – Twin Falls, ID


Provide technical assistance to dairy and food processors to improve product quality, productivity and global competitiveness.  The Specialist will be responsible for business development and assistance achieved by establishing relationships with dairy and food manufacturers in southern Idaho, assessing and monitoring business and technical needs, providing technical assistance and workshops/short courses, and coordinating with other state, federal, and local service providers.


This position reports to the Director of the University of Idaho/Washington State University School of Food Science and the Executive Director of Idaho TechHelp, Idaho’s manufacturing extension center, and will be located in Twin Falls, ID. 


Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, engineering, or related area; 5 years experience in the food processing industry; excellent interpersonal and communication skills.  Additional desirable qualifications include a M.S. degree in food science, dairy science, food engineering or related area; 7 years experience in a technical capacity in the dairy products/processing industry with applied R&D, plant operations or plant management experience; experience in consulting and business development with industrial clients.
