SUMMARY: This position serves in the Discovery
Center Sensory Lab and is responsible for assisting Sensory Analysts and
Sensory Scientist with sensory projects by following written and verbal
direction, ensuring correct and accurate sample preparation, operating commercial
kitchen equipment properly and safely. Other responsibilities include
weighing and measuring with accuracy, recording data, operating laboratory
equipment, product cuttings, maintaining and organizing the kitchen’s small
wares and ingredient inventories. This position may also support Food
Technologists, Sr. Food Technologists, Project Leaders and Directors, Other
duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Culinary
and/or Food Science education is preferred with special emphasis on sensory
analysis.
Experience: 2+ years of Sensory Lab work, Quality Assurance,
Laboratory, product development or food preparation experience is preferred.
Culinary and/or Food Science degree may be used in lieu of experience.
Computer Skills: Requires basic computer skills such as Microsoft
Office (Excel and Outlook).
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication
skills.
Special Skills: Must have the ability to contend with the range and
complexity of kitchen issues and food production; must have a high level of
integrity, honesty and genuine hospitality; and ability to work with all
levels of management in an organized manner to support the Tyson R &D
success through good communication and teamwork skills. Must have basic
mathematical skills and with weight and measurement conversions.
Physical Requirements: Standing - 90%; Sitting - 10%; Lifting - 20
to 70 pounds. This is done multiple times throughout the day, every day;
Pushing/Pulling - 20 to 100 pounds. This is done multiple times throughout
the day, every day. This consists of moving supplies and products around the
plant and kitchens on carts; Walking - approximately 100 yards from the
kitchens to the pilot plant. Technicians may walk this 5 to 10 times a day.
This position requires the ability to climb stairs 5 to 10 times per day, a
flight of 7 steps; Stairs 1 to 5 times per day, a flight of 21 steps.
