California Giant has an immediate opening for a Food Safety Manager. This is a hands-on position with the responsibility for carrying out a standardized food safety program for our company, its affiliated growers, and cooling and packing facilities internationally. Key components of this position are: helping growers and managers conform and improve their food safety practices; continuous monitoring of the corporate food safety policy/procedures; taking complete responsibility for the administration of California Giant’s food safety policy/practice and audit function; and playing a key role in helping guide all our stakeholders into the food safety future for the Company.

The successful candidate should have a four-year degree in food science or related field; three years experience in agriculture or produce industry, with emphasis on food safety, sanitation, and/or quality assurance. We are looking for someone who is knowledgeable, helpful and well organized.

This challenging position also calls for knowledge of federal and state regulations, USDA GAP standards and major customer requirements; an understanding of GlobalGAP, GFSI, and HACCP concepts and structure; previous auditing and training experience; Bilingual (English/Spanish); strong interpersonal and communication skills and must be computer literate. Extensive travel, 50 – 75% local; with some overnight travel, including international travel.
