Forty-five
Soweto school pupils were hospitalised
with food poisoning on Friday, said Johannesburg
emergency services.
Paramedics and parents were attending to another 15 children also complaining
of stomach cramps, fever and dizziness, said emergency services spokesperson
Percy Morokane.
A pupil collapsed just after assembly at Slovoville
primary school, in Soweto,
at 8.30am, said Morokane.
However, the school head said the children had not been given any meal at the
school, he said.
There were a lot of tuckshops nearby, but there was
no confirmation that any of these could be the source.
Morokane said the children affected were in grades
one to seven.
The school, which has 428 pupils, had since been suspended. - Sapa
