ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- The number of people who became ill after eating raw or steamed clams from Hinerwadel's in North Syracuse is now up to at least 236. That's the latest tally from the Onondaga County Health Department.

They say most of those who became ill ate raw mahogany clams. Test results on those who became sick are also starting to come back and they confirm that Campylobacter bacteria has been identified in some specimens.

The Health Department is investigating the possibility that other bacteria may also be involved. Campylobacter is one of the most common causes of diarrheal illness in the US. The county sees about 50 to 60 cases a year.

The Health Department is reminding anyone who ate at Hinderwadel's and became sick between September 4th and 16th to call them at (315) 435-6607.
