Senior Food Technologist

We are seeking an experienced Senior Food Technologist with an in depth knowledge of food science and technology, and diverse experience in product development and commercialization. Candidate must have the ability to formulate and scale-up a wide variety of food and beverage products. Candidate should possess strong project management skills, be able to independently manage multiple projects, and work effectively with cross-functional teams.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop new products across multiple product categories and throughout all phases of product development - from initial bench development to commercial launch
Formulate food products with exceptionally high hedonics, but simultaneously consider critical technical issues such as: food safety, food stability/shelf-life, cost, nutrition, scalability, etc.
Quickly bring product concepts to life in food form through creation of protocepts and food models
Provide product development support to client ideation sessions as needed
Solve complex technical problems related to the development, manufacturing, and/or improvement of food products and processes
Anticipate potential development challenges and proactively identify development approaches and contingency plans
Develop products within specific nutritional and ingredient guidelines; generate preliminary nutritional and ingredient statements as needed
Ability to create an experimental design (as needed) and conduct data analysis and provide interpretation and technical recommendations
Conduct basic analytical testing (pH, TA, water activity, moisture, etc) to support product development work
Recommend testing at outside test labs and analyze data and draw conclusions from a variety of microbiological, chemical and physical tests
Work with ingredient suppliers to source and select appropriate materials
Assist in and occasionally lead the scale-up and commercialization of a wide variety of food and beverage products in client or contract manufacturing locations
Expertise in a variety of food manufacturing unit operations and demonstrated ability to learn new technologies
Ability to troubleshoot technical, formulation and processing issues during pilot plant and factory runs
Maintain accurate project information, formulations, and specifications
Write finished product specifications and project status reports
Write protocols and administer shelf life studies
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects with overlapping deadlines
Strong documentation, organization and time management skills
Work with a wide variety of functions, including: clients, client managers, food technologists, contract manufacturers
Be able to guide Interns, Lab Assistants, and Product Development Technicians to support product development, as needed
Possess excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
Knowledge of Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Genesis (nutritional database) program
Up to 25% of time traveling domestically and occasionally internationally
Ability to lift 30 to 40 lb.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
B.S. or M.S in Food Science or related discipline
7 to 10 years of food or beverage product development with commercialization experience; prefer demonstrated experience across multiple technologies and product types
Culinary degree, and food service or restaurant experience desirable
