OPERATIONS MANAGER-SAFETY
JOB OBJECTIVE
SUMMARY
This position is
primarily responsible for cultivating and promoting an
accident/injury free environment by utilizing appropriate management
and employee safety training; management and leadership of safety
committees; conducting accident/injury investigations; and management
of regulatory compliance obligations, including OSHA, DOT and
internal QA practices.
PRINCIPLE
ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Enhance,
promote and monitor current safety programs and incentives to
reduce work-place injuries and accidents.
- Maintain
company safety training programs and all required documentation.
- Maintain
internal QA training programs, ensure required compliance and
maintain all required documentation.
- Acts
as liaison between division and Corporate partners regarding all
matters of QA, including inspections, audits, and regular
follow-ups.
- Responsible
for all classroom driver training and ensures that all drivers
have met and remain current in all required areas as outlined in
company policy and State/Federal law.
- Maintain
all safety based training records and ensure that all teammates
are in compliance with requirements.
- Conduct
accident and injury investigations as required. Complete
accident and/or injury reports when required. Conduct all
post-accident retraining and documentation.
- Interact
and partner with other department heads, HR, and corporate
partners to ensure a safe work environment where associates are
productive and healthy.
- Maintain
a “proactive” approach to improve upon communication within the
Distribution environment.
- Provide
training as needed to maintain a safe, efficient and
knowledgeable work force.
CHALLENGES
Managing and enforcing
all safety and QA regulations of the DC including training and
orientations; maintaining all required record keeping; auditing the
accident investigation process; assisting during routine
inspections and audits and ensuring all local and federal
requirements are met.
REQUIRED SKILLS
This position requires
knowledge of:
- Solid
interpersonal skills relating to implementing safety and QA
programs and training.
- Initiative to create, establish, and maintain
strong safety programs through manager and employee awareness
and practical work processes.
- Proficient
in areas of Workers Compensation, OSHA and DOT regulations and
application.
- Goal
setting skills that will enhance current safety standards and
reduce accidents and worker compensation costs.
- Management
of large numbers of staff with experience in training, safety,
motivating teammates, and resolving employee relations issues.
- Able
to build a strong, cohesive team and provide leadership with the
highest integrity.
- Strong
customer service and communication skills.
- Ability
to implement change and manage expectations.
- Coaching,
mentoring and overall development of staff.
- Strong
analytical and communication skills with proven ability to work
within the framework of the Team. Team concept and
Teamwork are essential functions performed daily.
- Ability
to communicate with different levels of internal/external
staffing.
- Bachelor’s
degree in a related field required.
- Three
to five years of relevant Safety Manager experience,
demonstrating a strong record of safety management, preferably
in the distribution/transportation environments.
- Consistently
positive attitude.
PREFERRED SKILLS
- STS,
CSM, CSA or other relevant certifications are a plus.
- Must
have proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
