Position Summary | Manage all functions and activities related to food safety and quality consistent with city, state, federal and certifying agencies regulations and the company's vision and objectives.

Responsibilities |

  • Design, implement and manage bakery quality assurance programs including standards, procedures, tools and measures to assure that quality and product safety requirements are met for food products and ingredients. Track effectiveness of all programs.
  • Analyzes product quality metrics, audit data, customer feedback, regulators and workgroup input. Lead investigation and resolution of concerns from regulators, business channels or internal and external customers. Schedule QA coordinators effectively to be able to monitor, inspect and correct if needed all productions shifts and all product categories.
  • Manage the interface with other functions to recommend and oversee updates of company operating procedures, training programs, Product data specification sheets, standards and operational tools for product safety. Assures accuracy and correct information's is shared throughout all operations departments. Lead the Food Safety and Quality meeting and assure attendance and participation of all required members. Review HACCP policies, procedures, forms, and keep HACCP program up to date.
  • Design and update the structure and organization of QA files of required suppliers, audits, food safety reviews, operating procedures, product information, compliance documents, certificates and/or critical supporting data in both electronic and paper formats. Manage access to data and assure data security.
  • Work with R&D, Plant Managers and IT to secure company proprietary formulas and product information's.
  • Work with Facility Manager and the team of engineers and sanitors to assure that the plant and equipment is kept clean and maintained up to the gold standards of food safety, GMP's and work place/OSHA safety standards. Directly manage calibration and certification program for all plant scales and metal detectors.
  • Develop and support operations management with effective communications to provide Team Members at all levels with appropriate awareness and knowledge of good manufacturing practices, food safety and quality assurance standards (requirement, program updates and process changes). Lead GMP orientation for newly hired Team Members.
  • Interface and influence cross-functional teams as the Product Safety and Quality System expert in the development of new products. Red Flag any food safety or quality issue at early stages of product development. Be a good source of guidance for R&D regarding regulatory. Use nutritional reports and in-house lab test to assist R&D with product ingredients, nutritional and shelf life objective.
  • Work directly with procurement and establish and manage ingredients and packaging quality management program. Through the team of QA Coordinators and with support from the Purchasing Manager assure that all required 100 gram reports, Food Safe specifications, Kosher, Non- GMO, Clean Label, Organic, and COA's are up to date.
  • Manage Genesis database. Assure accuracy of ingredients 100 grams data, product formula, and products ingredients and nutritionals reports including allergen statement. Develop up to date and accessible files for customer service to share with clients upon request.
  • Manage approval of label proofs assuring product data is accurate and meet all regulations. Continually update labels with needed changes due to formula or process change.
  • Work with the team, manage and develop all required new products documentations for key clients. Manage product kosher and organic certifications.
  • Stay up-to-date on the latest food quality and safety technologies, regulations and trends. Keep the management team updated on the changes in the market place.
  • Conduct monthly plant audits. Oversee 3rd party, Government (FDA, WSDA, NSF, QAI) and customer audits and twice-yearly mock recalls.
  • Maintain facility certifications and regulatory licenses. Apply for renewals.
  • Any additional tasks requested by regional manager to improve food safety.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities |

  • Food production industry, baking or wholesale production knowledge.
  • Knowledge of food technology, food microbiology, and safe food handling procedures.
  • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Organic certification and Kosher principles.
  • Good working knowledge of SQF Certification.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Able to work alone and in a team environment.
  • Able to multi-task.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs

Requirements |

  • At least two (2) years of management/supervisory experience in a food production facility
  • College degree in related field preferred
  • HACCP trained and certified required
  • Knowledge of state and federal food production regulations required
  • Reliable personal transportation
  • Current Washington State Food Handler's Card
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Flexible work schedule -- ability to work nights and weekends
