The function In the role as Research Technologist you will be responsible for the following:

You will be involved in lines of research for meat processing equipment and processes.

Your main area of activity will be the generation of technological knowledge for development paths in food technology and engineering. In this context, you will be entrusted with initiating, executing, overseeing, reporting on and analysing in-depth research into the processing of protein based food products focusing on red meat.

This research will often be multi-disciplinary in character involving worldwide cooperation with scientific institutes, universities, industry partners and leading manufacturers of convenience food products.

Given the depth required, you will develop yourself as a specialist in a specific technological area, without of course ever losing sight of the bigger picture. You should also be able to define and model processes.

The knowledge generated is then to be made available to the organisation in the form of advice and reports on operational and strategic paths.

You will also develop a network outside of Marel based on your speciality. You will maintain contacts in the scientific world and will represent our organisation at symposia and congresses.

Last but not least, you will be actively involved in devising technological principles for prototypes and testing these in practice. Requirements

As the right candidate you will have:
A university degree (PhD or MSc) in Meat Science, Food Science , Animal Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related area

Experience of or affinity with meat technology research, including meat cutting, primary and secondary processing. In addition knowledge areas such as

modelling (e.g., heat and mass transport), protein denaturation / gelation, microstructure and chemical/biochemical reactions in foods are beneficial

Strong affinity with technical matters and mechanical engineering

The necessary skills for reporting your activities in a responsible way, for working independently and for putting together clear instructions for others to follow

Technological knowledge of products and production processes

Good command of English. The command of several foreign languages is a plus

The willingness to travel worldwide.
