Food Safety Auditor-11780 – Hanover, PA

Job Summary:

Food Safety Auditor leads the Snyder’s-Lance food safety evaluation program including auditing of facilities, policies and program execution.  This role is responsible for the food safety assessments for all Snyder’s-Lance facilities and business partners.  This position also creates, modifies, reviews and communicates food safety policy and practices. 

 

Essential Job Duties:

·         Independently assesses Snyder’s-Lance, Inc. facilities and business partners, including, but not limited to ingredient and packaging suppliers, co-manufacturers, and distributors.  This includes auditing of programs, policy and other documentation as well as the physical structures.

·         Creates, modifies, reviews and communicates corporate quality and food safety expectations across the enterprise.

·         Works closely with S-L site leadership teams for the continuous improvement of our corporate and site food safety programs.

·         Stays current with existing and emerging regulatory requirements and industry trends and communicates within the organization.

·         Assist with consumer complaint program including trend analysis and complaint reduction.

 

Scope of Responsibility:

·         Responsible for overseeing of food safety programs for 16 Snyder’s-Lance business units located on 12 manufacturing sites in North America and Canada.

·         Recommends and participates in determination of supplier food safety status for over 280 corporate suppliers of raw and packaging materials.  Also recommends status for over 30 external co-manufacturers.  

·         Responsible for individual travel budget of approximately $50,000 annually.

·         Responsible for scheduling of own travel and auditing activities, 

·         Responsible for conformance to Snyder’s-Lance Travel Policy including accurate and timely expense reporting.

·         Assists Food Safety Manager in the establishment of Food Safety metrics (KPI’s) for Snyder’s-Lance and its business partners.  Also assists in creation and modification of existing programs and policy.

·         Establishes regular communication with S-L leadership teams and business partners to assure comprehension and compliance to S-L food safety programs and policy.

·         Establishes in-process specifications, formulations, and production procedures to insure consistency at suppliers

·         Responsible for taking appropriate actions when out-of-compliance conditions are encountered or finished food safety is concerned.  Actions include discontinuation of operations when necessary. 

·         Fills in as alternate for Managerial positions due to absence of key personnel

·         Performs other job related duties as needed.

 

Supervisory Responsibility:   

No Direct Reports.  Candidate may have supervisory responsibilities when filling in due to the absence of key personnel.

 

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

·         Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. 

·         Exceptional ability to partner and foster interpersonal and business relationships

·         Exceptional reasoning and problem solving skills utilizing objective and subjective data.

·         Exceptional knowledge of food safety and quality systems including HACCP and Regulatory    

·         Working knowledge of and ability to use PC programs including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

·         Valid driver's license with a good driving record

·         Working knowledge of GFSI standards and expectations

·         Attention to detail and good observation skills

·         Valid driver's license with a good driving record

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) preferred from a four-year college or university; Associates degree (A.A.) with three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience required at a minimum. 

Food Safety and Auditing experience required.  HACCP Certification through recognized association.

 

Physical Demands:

Candidate must be able to walk, stand or sit or a regular basis.  Candidate must be able to climb, balance, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  Candidate must not be afraid of heights or enclosed spaces.  Candidate must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 lbs. and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.  Specific vision abilities required of job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.  Candidate is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with arms, talk or hear; and taste and smell.

 

Work Environment:

The work environment will consist of a variety of manufacturing and packaging operations.  This will consist of multiple temperature ranges from freezing to very hot.  Environment may consist of possible tight or enclosed spaces and high elevated spaces.  This will include a multitude of varying light levels.  During job duties will be exposed to moving mechanical parts.  The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

 

Travel Required:

Travel requirements up to 75% of annual scheduled time including out of state, out of country, overnight, weekend and extended stays (over 14 consecutive days).
