Services, Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Office of Regulatory

Affairs (ORA), Central Region, Investigative Branch. This position

may be located in the Cincinnati District Office or one of the

following Resident Post:

Major Duties:

If selected for this position, you will:

 

Plan, conduct and direct highly technical, complex and multi-faceted

inspections and in-depth investigations related to the production,

control and testing of food products, is highly skilled in interview

techniques as well as criminal investigation techniques and routinely

make recommendations to regional and district management officials as

to whether or not a firm/individual involved in food products is in

compliance regarding Current Good Manufacturing Practices(CGMP)issues.

 

As a principal source of expertise within a geographical area

provides extensive advisory, liaison and consultative services for

food programs to regulated industries, State agencies, other

Federal agencies and Agency management.

 

Manages the review of previously approved products to determine

whether they should continue to be permitted in light of current

scientific safety criteria. 

 

Researches and prepares final background and decision papers for the

signature of the Director.  Prepare memoranda, briefings, and other

background material concerning substantive issues, findings,

conclusions and proposed solutions to keep the Director and

appropriate staff involved at key decision points.

 

Serves on task forces and study groups charged with considering

problems or directions in the area of food programs.

 

Serves as an expert witness in area of expertise in court cases

dealing with regulated products.

 

Is a member of the international inspection cadre and conducts

inspections of both domestic and international food establishments.

 

Assignments cover the largest manufacturers in the District and some

smaller firms where new or unusual features are present.  The

investigator may conducts inspections and investigations of

facilities where only limited guidance documents are available.

 

The investigator conducts the more complex, technical investigations

and inspections of establishments in the area of assigned

responsibility and prepares proposed or final EIR endorsements.

 

Independently performs investigations involving complaints of injury

or death attributable to products regulated by the FDA.

 

Develops and implements formal training programs for Agency

personnel, industry, and state/local officials, and provides

technical expertise to industry representatives.

 

Serve as a principal advisor or team leader in a field of regulatory

and compliance expertise.


Qualifications:

Specialized Experience:

In addition to meeting the qualification requirements for the

position, you must also possess experience that has equipped you with

the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform

successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or

related to the work of the position. To be creditable, the

specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least one year

at the GS-12 grade level.

Education Statement - Individual Occupation Requirement:

 

 

This position has an education requirement. You must submit a copy

credit hours completed and grades) to document that you have met the

education requirement. Unofficial transcripts will be accepted in

Applicants must have successfully completed one of the following (A

or B):

 

A.  Degree:  which includes at least 30 semester hours in one or a

combination of the following:  biological sciences, chemistry,

pharmacy, physical sciences, food technology, nutrition, medical

science, engineering, epidemiology, veterinary medical science, or

related scientific fields that provide knowledge directly related to

consumer safety officer work.  The 30 semester hours can include up

to 8 semester hours in statistics or course work that includes

principles, theory, or practical application of computers or computer

programming.

 

OR

 

B.  Combination of education and experience   courses consisting of

at least 30 semester hours in the fields of study described above,

plus appropriate experience or additional education.  The quality of

the combination of education and experience must be sufficient to

demonstrate possession of knowledge directly related to consumer

safety officer work and is comparable to that normally acquired

through the successful completion of a full four year course of study

with a major in the appropriate fields.

 

You must meet citizenship and all other qualification requirements

by the closing date of this announcement.  All other requirements

(including Time-in-Grade) must be met no later than 30 days from the
