Cargill Dressings, Sauces & Oils refines vegetable and tropical oils and animal fat for a wide range of food and nonfood manufacturers. We also make shortenings, frying oils, mayonnaise, dressings, and sauces for the foodservice industry.

The business operates seven oil refineries, five shortening and oil packaging plants, a mayonnaise production facility, a dressings plant and a culinary sauce facility, all of which are located in the United States. We also operate an edible oil refinery in Mexico.

Customers include major food manufacturers and quick-service and casual-dining restaurant chains. Dressings Sauces & Oils is integrated with Cargill's soybean crushing activities, which provide a reliable source of crude soybean oil for further processing.

Position Purpose:

The Product Development Scientist is a key member of the Dressings, Sauces and Mayonnaise (DSM) Development Team. Working in conjunction with assigned culinary partner the PD scientist will deliver new product innovation projects across assigned customer based. Key responsibilities include: coordination/execution of customer ideation sessions aligned with their strategy, consumer trends and success criteria; bench level development, and successful transition/scale up to commercialization team. The PD Scientist/Culinary team in conjunction with the CFNA sales tag is also be responsible for developing and maintaining highly engaged customer relationships to drive business success.

Principal Accountabilities:

40% - Support attainment of DSM new product development profit targets through development of innovative dressing & sauce formulations for assigned customers that are aligned with customer strategic direction, and consumer trends while achieving project success criteria and key milestones. Solution must be fully scale able to Operations. Facilitate and support commercialization and launch activates through seamless hand-off to Commercialization team.

20% - Pro-actively bring creative customer solutions through coordination/preparation/execution of customer ideation sessions aligned with Customer strategy and leveraging market/flavor trend data to support overall approach and specific recommendations. Develop and showcase dressing/sauce prototypes in complete builds that support recommendation.

20% - Working in conjunction with Culinary partner and Sales tag, develop and maintain strong customer partnerships across assigned customer base. Understands Customers’ strategic direction and fully partner to deliver against their innovation goals.

25% - General bench support as assigned to support broader Development and Commercialization Teams’ initiatives, opportunities against House Accounts and the branded line, general troubleshooting support and experimentation to explore novel ingredients.



·         B.S. Degree in Food Science, Nutrition, Biology or other closely related scientific field

·         2+ years work experience within a food industry technical function

·         Solid command of food science principles and understanding of ingredient functionality

·         Analytical thinker and problem solver

·         Demonstrated ability to work as member of cross functional team

·         Excellent written and oral communication skills

·         Highly effective interpersonal skills

·         25% travel


·         M.S. Degree in Food Science or closely related scientific field

·         5 years work experience within a food industry technical function

·         Experience with dressings & sauces formulations/processing

·         Demonstrated leadership ability

·         Proven skills managing customer relationship
