Position Summary Information

Job Summary

Assist with conducting research on the epidemiologic and microbiologic features of Salmonella and other foodborne pathogens among dairy cattle, horses, feral pigs, dogs, and other species.

Major/Essential Duties of Job

Perform bacteriologic culture (Salmonella and other foodborne pathogens)and various types of isolate characterization. Prepare manuscripts for publication in peer reviewed journals, participate in grant preparation, field sample collection

Occasional Duties

Present research at national conferences

Required Education and Experience

Masterís degree in Microbiology, Food Sciences or other related fields or baccalaureate degree in Microbiology, Food Sciences or other related fields with 3 to 5 years relevant experience. Must be able to travel to various research site to conduct sample collection.

Preferred Education and Experience

Experience with pulsed-field gel electrophoresis typing of Salmonella, E. coli and Listeria. Protocol writing, field sample collection and lab sample processing, experience in sequencing and phylogenetic analysis.

Experience with Geomicrobiology, foodborne diseases among dairy cattle, horses, feral pigs, dogs, and other species. Ability to produce publication quality manuscripts, experience assisting with grant writing.
