245 people with symptoms of food poisoning, all of whom had consumed cakes and pastries made in Rinija confectionery located in Skopje's Old Bazaar, were admitted  at the Clinic for Infectious Diseases in Skopje, stated doctor Blagica Joksimovic, an epidemiologist in the clinic.

She added that 34 out of 245 examined patients had severe clinical picture and thus were admitted in the hospital for further treatment.

Doctor Joksimovic said even though the clinical picture (high temperature, fevers, headaches, vomiting, etc) implied the food poisoning was a result of salmonella, it was too early to say before the Institute for Microbiology unveiled official results.

The first patients with food poisoning were admitted in the clinic on Sept. 28. Clinic officials say that new cases are expected in upcoming days. //01.10.08
