Food Sensory Technician - Minneapolis, MN

Location: South of Mpls/St. Paul
Schedule: Mon-Fri 1st shift
Duration: 3 month contract with potential to extend


The purpose of this job is to assist in the execution of sensory studies. The individual is responsible for providing technical support and project work in laboratory and plant environments.


1. Obtains and handles samples from cereal plant/equipment locations for sensory and analytical evaluation in a safe and sanitary manner consistent with the information required and compliant with GMP's.

2. Supports all types of sensory projects- discrimination, descriptive and consumer studies. This includes, but is not limited to, preparation of samples for evaluation and training; distribution and collection of sensory ballots and samples; purchase/order of samples for projects; repacking product; coding bowls; shipping product. 

3. Obtains samples and technical information about products that includes, but is not limited to, direct measurements of product or package attributes, processing or packaging measurements, production data, or quality measures in required location in a safe and sanitary manner .

4.  Operates laboratory equipment in a consistent and accurate manner according to approved methods.   Conducts routine and non-routine laboratory evaluations of products (chemical, physical and sensory). Understands and complies with all food safety and food manufacturing policies and procedures.

5. Maintains complete records of procedures followed, as well as observations and results obtained from product or package measures.

6.  Maintains sensory lab and sensory storage areas clean and tidy; distribute and collect sensory ballots and samples; maintain sensory materials - organizes samples, stocks cabinets; purchases/orders samples for projects.

7. All other duties as assigned.

Required skills:

Education: Some post-secondary sensory science, food science, chemistry, biology, mathematics, or statistics.

Experience: Two years consumer products experience. Understanding and experience in manufacturing processes, GMP's, general food processing, sensory and laboratory techniques.  Sensory, product development or quality assurance experience preferred.

Skills: Possess excellent problem solving skills. Ability to work safely in and around food processing laboratory and plant equipment. Ability to compile data and must be able to communicate both written and verbally. Predominently works independently but also works on cross-functional team; ability to build strong working relationships. Must be flexible and be able to prioritize responsibilities to meet changing work demands.
