Food Safety Lead Assessor

Position is home based, it is not required to be located in Houston. Candidates must have availability to start with LRQA immediately and must have time available in schedule to complete induction and field training requirements quickly. Candidates should have at least 10 audit days per month available for potential LRQA assignments.

Job Responsibilities

The assessor should have the knowledge corresponding to a post-secondary education that includes general microbiology and general chemistry. The assessor shall also have the knowledge corresponding to a post-secondary education that includes courses in the food chain industry category in which they conduct Food Safety Management System audits.

Experience/Knowledge Prerequisites (if applicable)

  • The assessor has completed ISO 22000 training (preferred).
  • The assessor has experience with a wide range of food products, including but not limited to confectionary, dry and wet pet food, beverages and other food products
  • The assessor is a registered lead assessor and has undergone HACCP training or has the audit log background to achieve registration.
  • The assessor has successfully completed training in a) HACCP principles, hazard assessment and hazard analysis, and b) food safety management principles including PRPs.
  • The assessor has a minimum of five years of full-time work experience in the food-chain-related industry, including at least two years of work in quality assurance or food safety functions within food production or manufacturing, retailing, inspection or enforcement, or the equivalent. The number of years of total work experience may be reduced by one year if the auditor has completed appropriate post-secondary education.
  • The assessor has performed audits for 2nd party of GFSI or ISO 22000 or ISO 9001 in the food industry.

Job Requirements

  • Undertake client management activities for assigned customers.
  • Lead or participate in preliminary assessments, assessments, follow-up visits, surveillances and certificate renewals to contract and budget requirements.
  • Comply with LRQA procedures, accreditation schemes, legislation and industry standards.
  • Produce verbal and written assessment reports on time and to the agreed format.
  • Discuss and justify the findings of the report and agree the outcome with clients.
  • Undertake necessary documentation, data, administration and communication activities needed to successfully fulfill responsibilities.
  • Pursue CPD and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
  • Coach other employees.
  • Identify new and additional business opportunities, advise clients on LR and LRQA services and action any resulting leads.
  • Lead or participate in special projects.
