Research and Development Manager
Education Required: BS in Food Science or equivalent, MS or PhD is a plus
Understanding of the principles of Food Science: Food Chemistry to include Carbohydrates, Fats, Protein, Water.
Food Microbiology: How to avoid food pathogens; common food spoilage conditions; food ingredients that influence spoilage and hazardous situation.
Food engineering: Meat marination; Industrial meat/food cooking systems.
Basic food regulations: Knowledge of how to access and understand federal regulations.
Computer Skills: Basic computer literacy, MS office, AS400 a plus.
The following abilities may be obtained through university education, or extensive practical experience in the related fields: Specialties in meat (red meat, poultry) will provide the most important direct practical experience, however, background in other related disciplines are acceptable.
Managerial ability: Excellent leadership skills. The ability to create and work in an open-door work environment. The supervision and performance evaluation of more than one individual. Proven ability to create a team with individuals of different experiences. Ability to work with other managers to develop action plans and implement those plans. Ability to work with other sales managers and sales directors to satisfy customer needs. The ability to understand and apply company and R&D policies.
Personal Interaction: A need for urgency in customer/sales interaction. Good written and verbal communication to internal staff and external customers. Good presentation skills. The ability to listen. Good conflict management skills for both employees and customers. Professional demeanor.
