We are seeking a dynamic, creative individual for an assistant professor, tenure-track, 9-month appointment in food science with emphasis in food engineering.

Screening Begins December 01, 2011 and screening will continue until position is filled.

Starting Date Monday, August 27, 2012

Qualifications An earned doctorate in food science from an accredited degree-granting institution with an emphasis in food engineering; university teaching experience in food science/food engineering and/or food packaging; research and grantsmanship experience. Effective communication skills required. Student mentoring and experience in building industry partnerships preferred. Membership in a national professional organization required with leadership experience preferred.

Responsibilities Effective teaching of undergraduate and graduate food science and food engineering courses.
Courses may include, but not be limited to: food engineering and processing, food quality, food packaging, food product development, and food technology. Conduct research in food engineering and/or food packaging. Additional responsibilities include thesis supervision, academic advisement, and professional service.

Department The Department of Food and Nutrition is responsible for administering the undergraduate program in Food Systems and Technology as well as a graduate program in Food and Nutritional Sciences. The department also administers an undergraduate program in Dietetics and a master's prepared Dietetic Internship program. Equipment housed in the department includes: Temperature & Humidity Chamber, Varian Saturn 2100T GCMS, HPLC, ASE 200 Accelerated Solvent Extractor, a Single Screw Extruder, protein analyzer, moisture analyzer, vacuum oven and texture analysis instrumentation.
