Summary:
|
Under
moderate to general direction, the Staff Scientist - Microbiology Research
will assume primary responsibility for undertaking and executing
fundamental projects in the field of food microbiology of major importance
associated with chocolate, confectionery, beverage, and other projects of
importance, complexity, and scope. This position requires a person to be
skilled with problem solving, have the ability to supervise and coordinate
the development of other staff, and manage projects that are of major
importance to the current and future business interest of the company.

Responsibilities:
|
- Management of research
projects as assigned, initiating projects or recommending projects to
pursue.
- Establish objectives and
approaches to execute projects.
- Determine technical
approaches to explore as they apply.
- Solve problems through
application of knowledge, experience and original thinking and testing
solutions.
- Provide leadership and
instruction to technicians and professionals assigned to assist on a project
and coordination of efforts of other members of the project team as
necessary.

Qualifications:
|
Education/ Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Food
Science/Technology or related field with minimum of 5 years of
applicable work experience.
- Master’s degree in Food
Science/Technology or related field minimum of 3 years of applicable
experience.
- PH. D. in Food Science/
Technology or related field with minimum of 1 year of applicable work
experience.
- NOTE: GRADUATE DEGREE IS
STRONGLY PREFERRED
Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities:
- Must have knowledge and
experience in thermal and aseptic processing, including thermal death
time studies and validation of aseptic lines to comply with regulatory
requirements
- Excellent written and verbal
communication skills
- Attention to detail
- Computer skills (Microsoft
Suite)
- Ability to work in a team
environment and interdependently in a flexible work environment with
changing priorities
- Ability to interact with
peers in the industry as well as other industries and institutions as
required exchanging information and ideas in the area of food
microbiology
- Ability to interact with
technical, professional and managerial staff in Quality Assurance,
Research & Development, Manufacturing, Marketing and Legal
departments regarding technical or practical problem solutions
