Position Overview:

 

This is a leadership role in the application of statistical process control to plant operational processes as they relate to SQF, product quality, food safety, and weights & measures. This position shall ensure that the process and finished products meet the established requirements of the organization and that the process complies with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies.

 

This position is accountable for the development and improvement of quality, sanitation, and food safety standards for manufacturing processes and for the provision of programs, systems, and training to ensure that those standards are maintained. This position is responsible for procuring and maintaining SQF certification for each manufacturing facility.  This position is also responsible for the management of product testing, internal quality audits, sample collection, and record-keeping in accordance with SQF principles.

 

Essential Job Functions:

 

  • This position will hire, train, schedule and supervise quality assurance staff and/or managers at all manufacturing locations. The functional guidance for these positions and roles are to be provided by the incumbent

 

  • This position is responsible for creating and directing sound quality systems and programs to ensure quality product, well-maintained facilities, and robust performances on SQF audits; the incumbent works with and guides management and employees to develop and implement systems and programs to meet these objectives. The incumbent and/or subordinates will perform routine post-cleanup inspections and audits of manufacturing facilities and processes to ensure alignment with goals.

 

  • Assistance and reinforcement to be provided to plant management and employees to ensure compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices as they relate to SQF, quality assurance, plant sanitation, product protection, employee practices, housekeeping, and pest control. The incumbent and/or subordinates to perform daily and monthly audits of all areas – including the warehouse – to provide a measurement of performance concerning total plant quality, SQF adherence, food safety, and sanitation. Product and package quality are maintained on a daily basis through the supervision, education, and evaluation of personnel and plant practices.

 

  • The incumbent is a source of technical information and recommendations required to maintain SQF certification, consistent quality product, and a food-safe facility. This position provides knowledge, skill and time to plant personnel for the solution of quality and management problems; and develops programs and long-term plans including the application of statistical process control to plant operational processes. The incumbent provides leadership and technical expertise when interfacing with senior members of the organization, third-party auditing groups, government agencies, and during the development and design of new products.

 

  • This position is also responsible for performing inspections of outside raw and packaging material suppliers. Incoming ingredients and materials, and outgoing products are to be monitored by the QA department for quality and customer specifications. The incumbent and/or subordinates perform product testing, sample collection, and record-keeping to respond to internal and external specifications and inquiries.

 

  • This position may perform special projects as requested by the COO.

 

Principal Accountabilities:

 

1.    Hire and manage a team to support, spearhead, and champion the company quality mission: to consistently produce product with the look, smell, taste and feel that our consumer’s love in facilities recognized for superior food safety standards.

2.    Obtain and maintain SQF certification at each manufacturing facility.

3.    Develop and implement quality and food-safety standards, programs, and systems to assure compliance with SQF, established product specifications, and our quality mission.

4.    Perform audits, inspections, and requisite data monitoring to support our quality mission.

5.    Provide education and training in the areas of SQF, quality, and food-safety to upgrade or maintain skill levels of plant personnel. Work with plant directors and managers to ensure that facilities and personnel are acting in accordance with established standards, programs, and systems.

6.    Act as a liaison between plant manufacturing and regulatory agencies.

7.    Perform supplier inspections to ensure adherence to ALC supplier requirements.

8.    Test product, procure samples, and responds to customer and consumer feedback. Analyze complaint and survey information; prepare and recommend path for continuous problem solving to rectify outstanding issues.

9.    Follow up with audits, inspection, and monitoring to ensure continual adherence and timely implementation of procedures and systems.

10. Perform special projects as requested by the COO or Marketing Research. 

 

 

 

 

Requirements:

 

  • This position requires a BS in industrial engineering/technology, food science, business operations or related discipline
  • Applicants should have a minimum of 5-7 years in manufacturing engineering/quality and management.
  • Previous experience with AIB or SQF auditing preferred.
  • Training in Six Sigma, Lean, CPIM, and/or CMQ/OE a plus.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Exercises tact, diplomacy and discretion in business dealings with all associates.
  • MS in industrial engineering/technology, food science, business operations or related discipline a plus.
  • Interprets, communicates and enforces policies as stated in the associate handbook.
