Research Scientist – Food Safety – Elanco -

This Position requires use of controlled technology. An export license from
the U.S. Department of Commerce may be required in order to be employed in
this position. Elanco Animal Health is seeking a
highly motivated individual to participate in the acquisition and
development of products for food safety. Within a multi-disciplined team,
this individual will be responsible for coordinating and conducting
activities necessary to evaluate, obtain and develop products including but
not limited to efficacy, safety, manufacturing, and regulation for US and
OUS markets. Specifically, the person will be responsible for all aspects
of microbiological research needed to take a food safety product to market.
Development of food safety products is a fast paced area requiring
excellent communication skills and ability to work well within a team
setting. Training and experience in the microbiology of food borne
pathogens is highly preferred.
KEY OBJECTIVES/DELIVERABLES:
This is not a permanent position. It is for a Fixed Duration of up to 3
years.
- Conduct/monitor research
(~60%)
- Technical expertise to
evaluate opportunities and focus on key research needed to make Go/No
Go decisions. Microbiology expertise is essential and experience
specifically with food borne pathogens (understanding intricacies of
serotypes, bacteriophages, etc.) is highly preferred.
- Judgment-based experience to
oversee Contract Research Organizations to expand FSPD capacity and
capabilities: develop protocols, monitor and/or conduct research,
identify and select contract research organizations, establish
contract agreements, and maintain positive business collaborations
with both Elanco Food Solutions business
unit and Contract Research Organizations. (coordinate, supervise
and/or conduct activities across functional areas)
- Manage product development
activities (~25%)
- Deliver individual
objectives in a high quality, timely, cost-effective manner.
- Provide information to
facilitate accurate and timely project and budget forecasts.
- Manage project timelines and
budget deliverables to facilitate delivery of the Elanco
pipeline and coordinate with team members to prioritize activities.
- Timely delivery and
excellent documentation of work product to support project decisions,
product submissions and launch. (internal and external distribution
of data/information)
- Interactions with Elanco Food Solutions business unit and industry
(~15%)
- Providing technical support,
gaining understanding of industry, liaison with key business unit
personnel and external customers is essential to the successful
development of food safety products.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Ph.D. in Molecular Biology,
Microbiology or a related field or M.S. with 12+ years of relevant
experience.
- Food Safety
background/training is required; food safety industry experience is
highly desired.
- Technically proficient in
planning, conducting and documenting microbiology experiments.
- Excellent documentation
skills to support product development to launch.
- Fluent in English.
- Ability to work independently
and in a team.
- Qualified candidate must be legally authorized
to be employed in the United States. Lilly does not anticipate
providing sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B or TN
status) for this position.
ADDITIONAL PREFERENCES:
- Good judgment-based
skill/experience to oversee Contract Research Organizations.
- Excellent communication
skills and teamwork skills.
- Experience with bacteriophages or viruses.
OTHER CONSIDERATIONS:
- Travel required, up to 40%.
- Research monitoring and/or conduct may require
exposure to food animals, antibiotics, biohazardous
agents (Biosafety levels 1 and 2); and/or particularly hazardous
chemicals.
