Job Summary

Under limited supervision researches, conducts experiments, gathers data, develops preliminary findings and prepares written reports for the development of new products beginning at conception through successful commercialization. Selects appropriate methods, tests and procedures for testing. Develops project timelines, creates technical proposals and reports and makes recommendations. Requires one of the following: Bachelors in Science or Chemistry and 3 to 5 years experience, Masters and 1 to 3 years experience, or PhD and 0 to 1 years experience. Retail product development experience required

Position Responsibilities

Using consumer insights, conceptualizes and develops new product prototypes.

Formulates new products to match the ingredient statement, nutritional profile, cost and product attributes of the target product. Uses sensory tools to optimize product formulation.

Develops and documents the process for the manufacture of the product.

Identifies and executes key product quality, stability and safety testing protocols.

Properly documents activities, conclusions and recommendations in lab notebook.

Develops project timelines that are acceptable to management, marketing and R&D manager.

Develops finished product and processing specifications.

Conducts plant trials and new product start ups.

Collaborates with Engineering/Packaging/Operations/ QA and Marketing to meet project deadlines.

Position Qualifications

Minimum BS in Food Science or related field

3-5 years retail product development experience in a food company

Plant start up experience preferred

Potato or vegetable processing experience preferred

Microwave application experience preferred

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Excellent interpersonal skills

Excellent problem solving and organizational skills
