This is a field position under Regulatory Operations, Office of

Field Operations.  Regulatory Operations administers a nationwide

program of inspection of meat, poultry, and egg products through a

field structure.

Major Duties:

A Food Inspector (Export) serves as food inspector in a location

where quantities of meat and poultry products are exported from the

United States.  An Export Inspector's duties cover responsibility

for the performance of inspection duties in connection with the

enforcement of the various federal acts and regulations governing

the exportation of meat and poultry products.  The incumbent has

authority to refuse to provide export certification of any meat or

poultry products, which violate any of the requirements for

exporting.  

 

As a Food Inspector (Exports), here are some of the duties you will

be assigned to do:

 

1.  Verifies the accuracy of labels and inspection certificates and

examines products and containers to determine if the product is

sound, wholesome, and otherwise meets export requirements.

 

2.  Performs product reinspection after selecting appropriate

samples based on all applicable laws, rules and regulations. 

Assures the security of stamps and monitors the marking of products

as eligible for export.

 

3.  Notifies appropriate parties (e.g., cold storage warehouse

personnel) of products refused for export and as requested explains

and interprets export requirements.

 

4.  Prepares required records of export inspection activities, and

as needed, reviews and processes required certifications.  Completes

and/or verifies for accuracy all export documents and certificates

associated with products being certified for export.              

 

5.  Assures that authorized export inspection sites meet general

sanitation and facility requirements.



Qualifications:

For the Food Inspector (Exports) positions, there are two

basic components of your experience that together define the

qualifications. These components are:

 

Time-in-Grade and

Specialized Experience

 

Time-in-Grade:

In order to meet time-in-grade, you will need to have

completed 52 weeks at the next lower grade level within 30 days of

the closing date of this announcement.

 

Specialized Experience: 

In order to meet the specialized experience

requirement, you will need to have completed 52 weeks of

progressively responsible specialized experience at the next lower

grade level within 30 days after the closing date of this

announcement.  Specialized experience is experience working with the

Federal Meat, Poultry, and Egg Products Inspection Acts in order to

inspect meat, poultry and egg products. This experience also

includes working with basic SSOP and HACCP principles and practices

in order to verify plant HACCP and SSOP responsibilities, performing

basic mathematic and elementary statistical concepts and methods to

perform testing and sampling procedures and experience in reaching

and interpreting conclusions.

 

If you currently hold or have previously held a permanent federal

position at the GS-9 or higher, you are considered a "non-

Condition of Employment:  This position requires a National Security
