Position Description
Manages the design/plan/validation and implementation of new products, line extensions, product improvement and technical service for Bay Valley Foods that meet product offering requirements.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Performs complex technical assignments with high value to the company under general direction (overall objective achievement)
  • Performs all responsibilities of Sr. Associate Food Technologist with higher project throughput
  • Develops information for and issues product specifications, ingredient specifications, in-process control points and testing requirements
  • Leads technical expertise on cross-functional project teams and technical oversight of internal and external manufacturing start-ups and ongoing technical service
  • Demonstrates ability to influence project direction by providing technical input to the planning and decision making process
  • Functions as Technical Leader for technical focused projects, providing direction and monitoring various associates, support groups or contractors as project dictates

Daily/Periodic Tasks

  • Designs, executes, and analyzes experimentation
  • Independently determines and develops technical approach to solutions on product development teams
  • Supports, coordinates and conducts trial and start up of new products. Finalizes product and process specifications for start-up of new items
  • Communication to cross-functional group management
  • Identifies and resolves technical conflicts, including resources, to ensure projects meet business expectations
  • Conducts all activities in compliance with established safety standards and Good Manufacturing Procedures (GMP)


Job Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Bachelors degree in Food Science required. Masters degree preferred. Exceptional industry experience will be considered in lieu of degree
  • 3-5 years' experience in product development in the food industry

Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Excellent computer skills in MS Office. Broader based expertise in technologies used.
  • Ability to represent function in a team environment
  • Ability to interact and collaborate with cross-functional groups: Marketing, Market Research, Procurement, Plant Management, Engineering Vendors, Consultants, etc.
