JOB TITLE: Food Safety Coordinator

FLSA: Non-Exempt

DEPARTMENT: Quality Assurance

REPORTS TO: QA Manager

JOB PURPOSE:

The Food Safety Coordinator is focused on Food Safety and the constant improvement of plant policies and procedures to maintain a safe food product. They communicate and train all plant employees on Food Safety Programs and Policies.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Responsible for coordinating the SQF program in the plant
  • Communicates and trains plant employees on Food Safety Programs and Policies
  • Keeps the plant informed of Food Safety Regulations
  • Maintains HACCP and Food Safety Records
  • Manages Internal Audits of Food Safety Compliance
  • Writes plant Food Safety Communications/Trainings
  • Documents Recalls/Withdrawals
  • Responsible for maintaining the plant pre-requisite programs
  • Works with all departments on SQF compliance
  • Oversees Pre-op process
  • Calibrates plant employees on audit procedures
  • Acts as Plant SQF Practitioner
  • Maintains Food Safety Action Register
  • Work with Food Safety/Sanitation inspectors
  • Oversees scale calibrations and other SQF related PMs
  • Able to write work orders as needed to support Food Safety
  • Thorough knowledge of all departments operations and procedures
  • Understanding of all Production Processes
  • Current in HACCP and SQF requirements

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Microbiology degree
  • 3-5 years’ experience in food manufacturing or related field with practical experience preferred
  • Self-motivated, quality oriented, excellent verbal and written communication skills and must possess good people skills.
  • Monitors food process workers to ensure that personal hygiene rules are being observed.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Food Safety, Quality and SQF 2000 System Responsibilities

Will follow established programs, policies and practices to produce safe quality foods that meet regulatory and company requirements.

Will support the development, implementation, maintenance, and ongoing improvement of the SQF 2000 Systems.

Will be accountable to the Kroger Manufacturing Food Safety and Quality Principles.
