QA Assistant

The function of this position is to provide assistance in the maintenance and oversight of the quality system as it applies to laboratory operations and the performance of professional chemical and microbiological testing of food products and environmental samples. This position is responsible for assisting the Laboratory Manager in the application and evaluation of approved microbiological and chemical techniques as well as the methodology used in analysis of food products and has the authority to carry out these tasks. Will ensure compliance with ISO / IEC 17025 guidelines for food testing laboratories and other designated accreditations and client requirements. The Quality Assistant will have frequent contact with the Laboratory Manager and area Supervisors as well as review, reporting and interpretation of laboratory quality control records in all areas of the facility. This position works directly for the Laboratory Manager and receives direction from the Quality Assurance Manager. In addition this position assists in the daily functions associated with maintenance of the quality control system and has the authority to halt laboratory testing in the case of non-compliant quality control issues.


Assist in the supervision of laboratory quality system operations to maintain ISO/IEC 17025 and A2LA compliance and other certification/requirements directed by the company

Under the direction and control of the Quality Assurance Manager and Laboratory Manager, pursue consistent review of processes, procedures and techniques in accordance with accreditation guidelines as they apply to the proper implementation of the Food Safety Net Services Methods Manual, Quality Manual, Safety Manual and approved laboratory procedures

As a quality team member, oversee training of new and current laboratory personnel in the practices of an accredited facility to include quality system functions, laboratory procedures and protocols as assigned by the Quality and the Laboratory Manager

Perform internal audits of processes according to the internal audit schedule and A2LA checklist.

Assist the Quality Assurance Manager in ensuring preparedness for surveillance audits as they occur and working closely with the Laboratory Manager as the key quality liaison for external auditors


Perform other duties as assigned

Ensure acceptable aseptic/microbiological techniques are performed in the workplace.

Ensure acceptable chemical techniques are performed in the workplace

Ensure personnel are accurately performing tests methods and interpreting test results with notification to the Laboratory Manager of any deviations

Ensure quality monitoring in the laboratory is performed at the required frequencies

Assist the Quality Manager in special quality system reviews and revisions as assigned by the Laboratory Manager

Scheduling and performing calibrations

Create and revise new procedures and forms as assigned

Conduct other quality and technician duties as assigned


This position has no supervisor responsibilities.


Minimum of 2 years of experience in Life Science or related field required

H.S. Diploma, A.A.S. or B.S degree in Microbiology, Chemistry, Food Technology or related field preferred

ISO / IEC 17025 training preferred

Six months minimum experience in a microbiological and/or chemical testing laboratory required

One or more years experience in a commercial food-testing laboratory preferred
