POSITION OVERVIEW
This position performs a variety of routine tests to ascertain conformance to product specifications for incoming raw materials, waste water finished product, and water treatments. Technicians utilize laboratory test equipment and apparatus for a wide range of tests and procedures. Recording test results and preparing reports for analysis and evaluations are a requirement of the position. Using raw materials and mixing equipment to prepare production batches, along with recording material information accurately as a requirement. . Ability to lift up-to 70lbs is required.

SALARY: $34,000 - $40,000 DOE

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Safety and Regulatory

  • Actively participate in safety program and support the department in maintaining a safe work environment.

Quality Assurance – Technical (Corporate Quality)

  • Gathers, analyzes and maintains product and technology trend information
  • Evaluates condition of the manufacturing facilities and warehouse space to ensure compliance to regulatory and HACCP requirements.
  • Audits programs in support of quality objectives. Travel Required.
  • Provides technical input to clarify project requirements and prepares project plans for approval, and detailed prioritization.
  • Organizes and provides technical input on cross-functional team.
  • Identifies key technical hurdles and deliverables. Gathers proper documentation in support of new products or packaging.
  • Participates in the maintenance and development of plant quality programs in support of HACCP. Provides training and education of quality-based programs to manufacturing partners when assigned.
  • Obtain finished product samples for micro and analytical testing from contract manufacturing locations. Provide timely feedback to the Quality team and initiate corrective actions when required.
  • Research and respond to consumer complaints when assigned. Keeping the dept updated throughout the process.

Quality Assurance - Laboratory

  • Monitor attributes of finished product and evaluate its sensory, to determine whether that product meets a set of standards.
  • Record required data accurately and promptly. Often using computer software to record and analyze data.
  • Assists in auditing the Food Safety/HACCP Programs.
  • Conduct daily sampling and inspection of Water Treatment, and Waste Water to determine if they meet set specifications.
  • Assist with third party and customer audits
  • Perform and document Pre-Operational inspection at startup and product change-over
  • Collect and test samples of raw materials and finished product, report discrepancies to department’s management immediately.
  • Place raw materials and/or finished product on hold when necessary.
  • Complies with and enforces all GLPs (Good Laboratory Practices), and GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices).
  • Verifies all critical points of the HACCP program. Reports any issues or deviations to management.
  • Assists in developing product specifications.
  • Collect and perform micro testing on Waste Water samples, Water Treatment samples, finished product, rinse samples, and packaging samples.
  • Maintains the cleanliness of test equipment, utensils and laboratory in accordance with standard food laboratory techniques, methods and requirements.
  • Continuously improve lab techniques and procedures.
  • Effectively and promptly communicate results and procedures via e-mail.
  • Effectively troubleshoot product quality issues.

Sanitation

  • Monitor plant operations to assure sanitary operational procedures according to Good

Manufacturing Practices and Master Sanitation Schedule.

  • Perform required chemical sanitation of production piping, equipment, and holding tanks.
  • Perform p.p.m./ concentration tests on chemical solutions.
  • Perform ATP Swabbing after CIP.
  • Collect Samples for Micro Testing.
  • Perform necessary PM cleaning of production equipment.
  • Operation of HMI touch screen.

Batching

  • Properly mix ingredients into Syrup tanks
  • Basic understanding of pneumatics and plumbing flow.
  • Operation of pumps, valves and various plant equipment.
  • Operation of interactive panel touch screen.
  • Record all material lot numbers and expiration dates accurately and efficiently.
  • Review finished batches, prior to production; to ensure that they meet specifications.
  • Safely operate a forklift.

Other Duties

  • This position feels in the area of production and rainbow during the slow season which requires heavy lifting.
  • Other duties as required.

  • Ability to communicate clearly, effectively and in an assertive manner.
  • Ability to work, on occasion, with little supervision.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, biochemistry degree or Food Science degree preferred.
  • High school Diploma required.
  • Experience in an automated food production environment preferred.
  • Quality assurance experience preferred.
  • Ability to lift up to 70lbs.
