Basic Function:
The Premix Formulation Scientist develops precise, timely, dry and liquid
blend formulations that meet customer specifications
Responsibilities:
The incumbent in this position is responsible for:
- Creating formulations that
meet customer specifications
- Quick, thorough, accurate
responses to customer queries
- Formulations that are
logical for use – proportional RDA’s safe for use
Principle Duties:
The person in this position will perform the following tasks:
Vitamin Blend Formulation
- Formulate blends based on
customer requests, which will range from detailed specifications to
meeting an RDA claim to very broad requests for development support
- Prepare specifications,
documentation, and reports related to blends
- Address quality,
regulatory, and labeling issues for blends in bulk and finished
product
- Provide ongoing technical
support to both customers
- Continuously refine and
develop blending capabilities in accordance with customer demands
and sales growth
Any other tasks as assigned by management
Standards and measures of performance:
The incumbent in this position will be considered to be at or exceeding
expectations when:
- Formulations are completed
within specified timeframes
- Strong, productive
relationships are built with the sales force and business
development
- Formulation expertise grows
over time, working with senior R&D individuals
Skills and qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- 3+ years of applicable
experience, ideally with designing custom formulations of dry and
liquid vitamin premixes
- BS Degree – Chemistry/Food
Science preferred
- Must demonstrate effective
communication, interpersonal and planning skills
- Manufacturing background,
with a knowledge of liquid and dry blends – functionality, physical
properties, and market trends
- Knowledge and experience of
GMP
- Must be self-motivated,
team oriented with problem solving ability and a high sense of
urgency.
- Capable of working on own
initiative, unsupervised
- Team player, “get it done”
attitude, and a willingness to add value at all levels.
- Proven track record of
weighing, mixing and measuring blend to exact standard and
specifications
- Ability to prioritize and
manage multiple projects and deadlines
- Ability to see picture and
focus on level of detail to accomplish goals for growth
