Purpose of Role:

The Site R&D Product Technician is responsible for developing and implementing innovative solutions to address and/or trend product quality, process efficiency, quality management systems or operational conformance issues. As an R&D resource, this position requires working closely with Product Development, Process Development, Raw material Development, Supply, Engineering and Commercial to identify the most cost effective solution yielding consistent product quality and safety.

Another facet of this position is to assist in the implementation of new technologies and global initiatives to assure the consideration and transfer of the most up to date processes, methodologies, and techniques.

Principal Accountabilities

Develop and implement innovative product, process, systems, and methodologies

Provide leadership in the transfer of new technologies to Regional and Global Mars units.

Develop, and implement innovative systems to drive continuous improvements and Consumer Relevant Quality (i.e. Hold Management, HACCP, ISO, regulatory requirements, etc.).

Improve processes and systems through innovation, effective change control, research, and auditing.

Manage product recipes in RADAR. Assure recipe accuracy and manage recipe changes.

Site RADAR key user

Develop and deliver process technical training.

Translate process capability analysis into quality and efficiency CI initiatives

Work with process engineer to develop processing specifications

Manage the manufacture of new products.

Write, support and manage line trials, after action reviews and improvement activities

Drive and implement initiatives that support lean philosophy and reduce waste.

Lead implementation and validation of new process or equipment

Decision Making Authority and Impact

Experimental designs, methodologies, equipment / software requirements, and reporting formats Process running parameters

Technology Transfer requirements

Improvements to Product, Process, Systems, and Packaging

Process specification changes

COGS improvements

Associate Training Requirements

Key Functional Skills/Knowledge

Strong project management skills with proven ability to manage numerous projects.

Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and motivate a team.

Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.

Ability to work independently as well as within a team setting.

Strong knowledge of Food Safety, Regulatory, and Good Manufacturing Practices.

Working knowledge of computer software including word processing, spreadsheets, graphics, macros, etc.

Proven application of engineering principles, laboratory methodologies, food science, statistics and/or quality tools.

Ability and aptitude to work in an R&D, Manufacturing, and/or Distribution environment.

Effective communication skills and ability to influence.

Key Experiences

Subject matter expert in one or more technologies at the site.

Understanding of analytical laboratory practices

Understanding of equipment functionality or operation

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelorís degree or equivalent in a technical field (Food Science, Engineering, Chemistry, or related sciences) is preferred.

May substitute bachelor's degree with some college courses in science or engineering discipline with 3+ years of technical experience in food manufacturing.

Successful completion of Background and Substance Screen

Preferred Qualifications

Six sigma green belt/black belt
