This position is responsible for
applying food science, flavoring expertise and product formulation
principles in the research, development, manufacturing, technology, quality
control, packaging, processing, and utilization of botanical and herbal
PRIMARY DUTIES include the following. Other duties may be
Ø Conduct research in the development of
new products for human dietary supplements.
Ø Develop new, improved, and line
extension products within the dietary supplement category.
Ø Define processing
parameters needed to make these products from bench through commercial
production stages. Final execution will include among others the definition
of quality control, packaging, stability/shelf life and distribution
Ø Develop or improve
quality dimensions of dietary supplements such as flavor, color, texture,
nutritional value, convenience, or physical, chemical, and microbiological
Ø Develop dietary supplement standards,
raw materials handling and processing specifications.
Ø Serve as technical project leader on
all assigned projects
Ø Confer with vendors,
purchasing, process engineers, flavor experts, quality control, packaging
and marketing specialists inside the company as well as externally as
required to resolve problems on new and existing products.
Skill in use of Microsoft Word, Excel,
PowerPoint and Outlook are critical requirements.
May supervise other employees and/or
interns in the Product Development department. Carries out supervisory
responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and
applicable laws. Responsibilities may include interviewing, hiring, and
training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising
performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints
and resolving problems.
Bachelor of Science degree in Food Science/Food Science and Nutrition or
Pharmaceutical Science. MS and/or Ph.D. degreed candidates are would also
qualify for this position. Successful candidate will have 4-10 years
related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education
and experience. Experience developing food and/or dietary supplement
products for the consumer and/or health care practitioner markets is a
