Description

BSK Laboratories is looking for a Food Safety Specialist / Quality System Consultant for our Food Laboratory.  We have been providing professional laboratory and engineering services to clients throughout California for over 40 years. 

This position will work and collaborate with Vice President of Laboratories and Food Laboratory Director to grow the BSK Lab Services division through auditing and consulting activities to the Food industry.  Specific focus will be placed on those customers with limited, underdeveloped or no quality systems.  The purpose of this position is to create long term relationships with customers where BSK is their first and foremost resource for helping ensure the quality of product sold and the defensibility of the company.

Responsibilities:

Quality System Consulting:

·         Identify and approach those customers or prospects that would need ISO or similarly based quality programs

·         Convince prospects of the value and risk management benefits tied to a well developed quality system

·         Make recommendations to customers or prospects about quality improvements, emphasizing the benefits to operating a high-quality operation

·         Work directly with BSK customers or prospects to evaluate, revise and implement their quality systems

·         Conduct food safety related training sessions with BSK customers as needed (i.e. HACCP)

  • Understand, monitor and maintain all necessary credentials (i.e. education, training, certifications, etc.) to perform quality system consulting services
  • Participate in various trade organizations or committees to stay abreast of upcoming regulations and industry trends

 Auditing:

·         Provide auditing services to BSK’s customers needing to demonstrate compliance with a recognized standard of quality and / or technical competence

·         Develop a standardized audit program for those customers needing a third party audit but not necessarily one based on a named standard

·         Promote the BSK audit as one of reliability and a comparable substitute to those of other firms

 

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Food science required (Technology, Microbiology, Safety discipline).  Advanced degrees strongly preferred.
  • 10+ Years experience in the Food Quality, Food Production or Food Safety industries
  • Experience with Quality Systems in GMP, GAP operations
  • Approval as certified auditor for recognized standards (i.e. GMA-SAFE, BRC) highly desirable
  • Proficient at MS Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point
  • Ability to work routine hours as well as extra time necessary to attend trade, networking, and promotional events
  • Ability to travel, periodically requiring overnight stays
