Food Technologist-Product
Development – Central Valley, CA
Primary
Responsibilities:
- Develop new products and
innovations through all stages of product introduction (concept, benchtop, sensory testing, plant trial,
commercialization, shelf life, nutritional verification) while staying
within specified parameters (cost, label claims, targeted flavor and
customer profiles) at all manufacturing sites.
- Generate creative new concepts
and innovative products and processes appropriate to the brand, business
plan and strategies.
- Represent R&D as a project
leader in interacting with marketing, production, QA, purchasing,
finance, logistics, and sales departments as well as with suppliers and
customers.
- Provide Technical Services and trouble shooting support to Operations and Quality
Assurance
- Conduct technical research
projects through all stages of experimentation (test protocol
development, inter-departmental coordination, execution, and data
generation & interpretation).
- Investigate, analyze, and
execute new product/process improvement and cost savings opportunities.
- Train and develop Lab
Technician(s); may also supervise Lab Technicians.
- Develop ingredient and
nutritional statements and present to SRA for approval.
- Develop and maintain Operating
and Ingredient Specifications.
- Develop and execute best lab procedures
and practices.
- Develop juice blend recipes for
production.
- Coordinate new ingredient, crop
year, and supplier approvals.
- Self-training to keep abreast
of developing technologies and lifestyle and nutritional trends to
maintain competitive edge.
Required skills:
- Bachelors Degree in Food Science,
Cereal/Grain Science or related field with minimum 4-6 years of product
development experience.
- Good understanding of food
chemistry, microbiology, engineering, and sensory evaluation principles
and practices, particularly in areas related to
cereal/grain/nutrition/energy bars.
- Experience in all phases of the
product development process and in ingredient technology.
- Self-manage multiple projects
in a fast paced working environment.
- Possess diverse baking, food
processing and ingredient science knowledge
- Demonstrated ability to work
effectively with many departments such as Marketing, Sales, Operations,
Quality, Logistics, and Purchasing.
- Proactive and able to identify
problems and execute solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to rapidly
learn new skills and assume new responsibilities.
- Ability to travel
required.
- Excellent communications and
interpersonal skills.
- Fruit and/or nutritional
experience a plus, but not necessary
