Job Description

West Liberty Foods is currently seeking a full time R&D Project Leader. As Project Leader, the position will work in a very hands-on environment developing new products, product line extensions, and developing against a specific customer specification for new products. This position requires management of multiple projects, and coordinating with other R&D personnel for resources. Customer support and on-site visits to support project initiatives may also be required.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES:

     Plan and organizes research and development of new products for West Liberty Foods, LLC.

     Plan and organizes research and development for improvements to current products and or processes across multiple WLF facilities as directed by supervisor.

     Develop and create product specifications.

     Schedule product tests with production and scheduling departments.

     Act as liaison with new and current customers to develop new products or improve current products.

     Consult with current and new suppliers on industry trends and culinary ideas.

     Create and revises formulations for new and current products.

     Provide Cost Analysis information to the Finance group for cost estimates and pricing.

     Review existing production processes for cost improvement opportunities.

     Develop ability to become a subject matter expert in the area of product development.

     Participate in customer presentations when called upon to do so.

     Utilize existing and future R&D/Sales/Marketing tools essential to process flow of R&D.

     Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills

Ability to perform record keeping and mathematics necessary for employment purposes

Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with other employees

Possess a valid driverís license

Some travel may be required

Required Experience

Computer literate in Windows applications and MS Office software

Functional capabilities in the following competencies: Organizational Acumen, Quality Management, Responsiveness, Process Improvement, Employee Development, Motivating Individuals, Functional Knowledge and Skills, Prioritizing, Influence, Communication, and Problem Solving

Bachelorís degree in Meat Science/Food Science is highly preferred

Previous work experience in meat product formulation development and design and culinary applications desired
