West Geauga Local Schools was
notified by the Geauga County Health District Wednesday afternoon with test
results regarding the food that was served at a football team dinner at West Geauga High School
Oct. 16.
The testing was initiated after approximately 70 members of the football
team, cheerleaders, parents, coaching staff and administrators became ill
after eating food from an area restaurant at the team dinner.
According to the test results, there were no contaminants in the food
conclusively indicating that the food was not tampered with, and the cause
of the illness was food-borne. Therefore, there will be no continuation of
the investigation by the Chester Township Police Department or the Geauga
County Sheriff's Department.
A Geauga County Health District representative will meet with the students,
parents, staff and administrators impacted by this event at West Geauga
High School, 13401 Chillicothe Road in Chester Township, at 6 p.m. on Oct. 30 in
Room 124 to explain the test results and provide more information about
food-borne illnesses.
