Plans and directs research and development activities for products and services by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates.
 
Plans and coordinates areas of research and development such as project objective and purpose.
 
Conducts basic research and new product development of food products in a timely fashion.
 
Utilizes and maintains proper NPD reporting methods, paperwork and follow-up.
Interface well with the production facility while conducting plant trials and product issues.
 
Ensure products are legal and safe by proper formulation, shelf life testing and interfacing with Regulatory Department.
 
Ensures JBA Inputs, Product Routes and Structures and Formula Cards are accurate
 
Maintains all developmental records in an orderly comprehensive manner
 
Handles all paperwork to ensure the success of a new product including initial product specifications and make up procedures
 
Interface with purchasing for costing, new, alternative and/or replacement ingredients.
 
Confers with vendors when necessary to complete a project.
 
Orders ingredients, processes and maintains stock of ingredients to complete projects in a timely fashion.
 
Prepares all necessary samples for sales staff and/or customers.
 
Keeps abreast of developments within the food industry through reading, seminars, etc.
 
Ensure all ingredients used in production facility are Kosher approved by the Circle U Council.
Interface with Marketing and Sales in order to understand R&D’s function in building the business. 
 
Supports and promotes the Dawn Circle of Excellence, Mission Statement and Team Dawn

 

Requirements Have working knowledge of food science and nutrition either through a Bachelors or Masters Degree in Food Science or related field.
 

Working knowledge of various computer software packages.
 
At least 5 years of experience in the Food industry. 
 

At least 3 years of supervisory skills preferred

 

Experience in NPD and involvement in production start ups and troubleshooting. Must be capable of formulation as well as service to the production facility.
