Required Qualifications:
-PhD in Food Science with emphasis in Food Safety Microbiology.
Preferred Qualifications:
-Experience outreach and teaching food safety/microbiology, specifically
with experience in 1) experimental design, statistical analysis, working
with human subjects, 2) preparation of grant applications and
publications, 3) development and implementation of material for
comprehensive food safety and quality programs, 4) teaching classes on
food defense, safety, and security; HACCP; ALERT; self-auditing, 5)
teaching minority groups working in food service, and 6) conducting
on-site food safety sanitation audits.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Conduct on-site food safety and security training for
front-line food service workers.
- Assist with risk based food safety and sanitation audits and corrective
actions.
- Maintain active Certified Food Manager (NRA) instructor and proctor
status.
- Conduct outreach programs to the food service community.
- Conduct on-site visits to facilities for hands-on inspection and
instruction.
- Assist in coordinating focus groups.
- Collaborate with other researchers and outreach personnel in the
project.
- Author and coauthor manuscripts for publication and/or presentation at
professional meetings.
- Draft proposals to funding agencies to procure funds for new projects.
Program/Unit Description
This Research Associate (job code # 9702) position is a 100%
time, 12-month (A) annual renewable appointment. Renewal is dependent on
funding and satisfactory performance. The appointment provides access to
University health and vacation benefits.
This position is in the Department of Food Science and Nutrition. The
mission of the Department is to conduct research, provide knowledge, and
develop skills to improve food and health. The integration of nutrition
and food science has provided an exceptional opportunity for the
Department to capitalize on the intersection of the areas of health
systems and safe food production. The Department plays a unique and
important role in meeting human needs by training professionals and
providing service in the fields of nutrition and food science. Many
faculty members in the Department are nationally recognized scholars in a
wide range of nutrition and food science focused areas, including,
nutrition and health/disease prevention, nutrition and society/community,
nutrition education/culture, food safety and microbiology, food
processing, food flavor and sensory studies. The Department employs 25
tenure/tenure-track faculty members and 30 professional staff members.
