Senior Food Technologist

Primary Function

The Senior Food Technologist will be responsible to provide sensory support and advance the capabilities of the organization in the area of sweetness. The Senior Food Technologist will discuss sensory needs and set up sensory projects with project leaders, run descriptive sensory panels, and interpret, evaluate and report data from these panels. The Senior Food Technologist will also update, develop and communicate the physiochemical technical data of the Company’s ingredient products; develop, document, and communicate formulation and nutritional labeling aspects of formulations; and assist customers with formulations. He/She will provide technical assistance to the Company’s Technical Services team, sales team, distributors and affiliates throughout North America and globally as required. In addition, he/she will work to support customers and Technical Service to identify formulation challenges, solve problems and develop new, innovative ideas.

Supervision of Sensory Descriptive Panels

Key Deliverables


·         Work with Sweetener Group, Technical Service and Commercials teams to answer project or customer driven sensory and/or technical questions.

·         Provide sensory support and technical support to Sweetener Group projects involving prototype development and background data.

·         Support the generation of new formulations to address customer and project needs.

·         Work with Go to Market teams to understand the needs and work within the Global Innovation Group to utilize technical resources to progress these goals.

Agility and Innovation

·         Utilize and strengthen understandings of the function of our ingredients and how they interact with common ingredients in a variety of applications.

·         Work with customers and Technical Service to identify formulation challenges, solve problems and develop new, innovative ideas.

·         Continue to stay engaged and updated with industry information and trends to best respond to customer requests.

·         Use good judgment in running statistical analysis of sensory results and interpreting data.

·         Develop industry relationships to leverage information and utilize to address customer needs.

·         Work with Applications, Analytical, and Sensory teams to generate data to optimize prototypes and provide sensory data for projects.

Knowledge, Skills,

and Requirements:

·         Bachelors or Master’s degree in food science, chemistry or related scientific field (e.g. engineering, nutrition, food technology) with 1 to 3 years of experience in product development.

·         Strong background in sensory development with statistical analysis skills.

·         Experience working with nutritive sweeteners, modified starches, hydrocolloids, high potency sweeteners, and flavors a plus.

·         Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills required for formulation work.

·         Ability to interact effectively across all levels of the organization and in a variety of cultures – both internal and external.

·         Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

·         Self-starter, ability to work with minimal direction.

·         Good written and oral communication skills.

·         Solid planning and organizational skills.

·         Expected Travel Approximately 10%.
