Local E coli outbreak not related to other Michigan cases

Laboratory results show the strain of the E coli virus that infected
several individuals from the local health district definitely was not related
to any other cases in the state, including the outbreak at Michigan State
University.
The Health Department of Northwest Michigan investigated
five cases of E coli infection, four from Emmet
County, and one from Antrim County.
Based on results of tests performed at the Michigan Department of Community
Health State Laboratory in Lansing, public
health officials have concluded the Emmet
County cases are not related to the Antrim County case or to outbreaks down
state.
The source of the Emmet County
outbreak is unknown at this time.

Michigan Department of Community Health
and U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) & Prevention is investigating
a possible link between the Antrim and Emmet counties’ cases with other E
coli cases around the nation involving the same strain.
The Health Department of Northwest Michigan is mandated by

quality health care, address health problems of vulnerable populations, and
protect the environment for the residents and visitors of Antrim, Charlevoix,
