Job Description:

Tarleton State University seeks a progressive, energetic individual with strong leadership skills to guide a department of 12 faculties in teaching, scholarly, and service programs, and to coordinate departmental contributions to the college, institution, and the broader academic community. The selected individual must be committed to the continued development of others and must possess outstanding communication and interpersonal skills. That individual must promote an atmosphere of cooperation and collegiality.

Applicants also should possess:

1) A general understanding and/or background in all animal sciences;
2) A strong background and evidence of success in undergraduate teaching;
3) Leadership abilities for applied research and service activities;
4) An appreciation for student-centered teaching, service, and research;
5) The ability to utilize and address future challenges for online and distance learning applications;
6) A record of service as a liaison for animal sciences within industry;
7) A desire to promote off-site agricultural facilities for teaching and research; and
8) Evidence of developed partnerships with industry organizations, commodity groups, state or federal agencies, food science and supply industries, and/or community associations.


The position requires a Ph.D. degree in animal, food, or related sciences and evidence of administrative leadership experience in teaching and/or research activities in one or more of the sub-disciplines of animal science. Applicants must provide evidence of having completed at least seven years of college teaching with pertinent professional experience and/or research activities. Candidate should clearly demonstrate vision and leadership potential. All applicants must possess credentials qualifying him/her for tenure-track or tenured appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor. Faculties appointed to the rank of associate professor shall have demonstrated teaching excellence, scholarly/creative attainment, and professional achievement within an institution of higher education. Teachers of record must possess minimum Southern Association of Colleges and Schools credential standards which normally includes 18 graduate credit hours in the subject area taught.  



Preferred education/experience/skills (additional qualifications):

Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience as a department head or chair.  


Work Hours

Normal work hours with some weekend and evening work. Some travel required.
