Outbreak sickens 40 to 50 at Wausau sports dinner

County health officials
are continuing to investigate an outbreak of food-borne illness possibly
linked to a sports potluck dinner.
The Wausau School District notified the Marathon
County Health Department at mid-morning Friday that 40 to 50 people had
become sick after the dinner, said Dale Grosskurth,
the county's director of environmental health and safety.
Most reported symptoms including stomach cramps and diarrhea, although some
also reported fatigue and nausea.
The Health Department sent samples of food and stools from those who became
ill to the state’s Department of Health Services for testing, Grosskurth said. Results could come back as early as
Friday. State health officials likely will give a short questionnaire to
those who became ill as well.
